ROUTINE FALLACIES

By Irlanda Ruiz Aguirre

Boredom and anger are just around the corner,

they accompany each other intermittently;

That's the price you pay for being aware.

While in the stands everything seems like a farce,

a cheap, poorly acted play.

From a distance, people tell those who are suffering to hang in there,

And may those who are crying find a reason to smile.

The poor are told to work harder.

The woman is told to be patient.

The person who succeeded is told to be quiet.

We are surrounded by the absurd monologue of redundant words,

The incessant chatter of ignorant speeches.

People spout nonsense that we repeat and accept,

After all, we’re judged if we ask questions.

And that is why we remain silent,

in the face of the falsehoods imposed on our lives;

romanticizing misery and apathy

We are the product of a fractured environment.

Of rotten hypocrisy, of deep-rooted deceit.

We are the offspring of thousands of accumulated farces,

We are the survivors of deep-rooted fallacies.
