WITNESS

By Irlanda Ruiz Aguirre

“Rough sea, silent witness,

"of a passionate love" …

Fugitives, madmen, convicts

of the fury of a thousand volcanoes.

A thousand breathtaking volcanoes,

from a single flame,

they burn, they grow, they spread…

Distant, light ships,

found in a dream,

caught up in a romance,

forgotten in an instant.

Abstract, indecipherable words,

inscribed on papyrus,

stored far away

Tropical, enchanting scents,

tormenting, domineering.

Thieves, fugitives,

of a frivolous delusion,

tied to their intertwined bodies,

on a dark, memorable night,

a long-awaited night

Castaways…

People who have a feeling,

(Love?) suffocated by its longing,

an eternal and cruel punishment

with the sea as our witness…

“A turbulent sea, a silent witness”

"of a passionate love" …
